This classily casual restaurant---brightly painted inside like the interior of a quirky artist's loft---on the corner of N. Guadalupe and W. San Francisco streets should always, always be on the short lists for any date---business or romantic. It's the opening and closing acts of dinner at Thai Café that really get the salivary glands pumping. One should start off with a small bowl of the potent witches' elixir passed of as simple house lemon-grass soup. Then,at the end,you're punishing yourself if you don't select one of the rice and coconut sweet desserts. They are simultaneously exotic and comforting,as if Snap, Crackle and Pop were joined by the Buddha to curate the dessert menu. In between, while the meals are standard, craving-quenching, pick-your-meat, American acceptable Thai.- (DM)
